Poulus Ensom Smith LLP is seeking talented commercial litigation associates with 2 to 5 years of experience to join our Vancouver office.

We offer associates the opportunity to work on sophisticated and challenging litigation while taking on meaningful responsibility early in their careers. Our associates work closely with experienced counsel, have direct contact with clients, and are actively involved in all stages of litigation, including examinations for discovery, applications, trials, appeals and arbitrations.

The Role

Our associates work on a broad range of commercial disputes and are expected to play an active role in their files. Depending on experience, responsibilities may include:

• Managing files and discrete aspects of larger matters;
• Drafting pleadings, written submissions and other court materials;
• Conducting legal research and providing practical, strategic analysis;
• Preparing for and conducting examinations for discovery;
• Appearing on applications and other court proceedings;
• Participating in trials, appeals, mediations and arbitrations;
• Working directly with clients, opposing counsel, experts and other professionals; and
• Contributing to the collaborative development of case strategy.

What We are Looking For

We are looking for lawyers who are intellectually curious, practical and committed to developing as advocates. Strong candidates will have:

• Approximately 2 to 6 years of litigation experience;
• Experience in commercial litigation or a demonstrated interest in developing a commercial litigation practice;
• Membership in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia, or eligibility for membership;
• Excellent legal research, analytical and writing skills;
• Strong oral advocacy and communication skills;
• Sound judgment and attention to detail;
• The ability to manage competing priorities and take ownership of their work; and
• A collaborative approach and an interest in contributing to a collegial, team-oriented firm.

Compensation and Benefits

We offers to-of-market compensation and a comprehensive benefits package. Base salary range: $130,000 to $185,000, depending on year of call and experience.
